As former President Donald Trump gets closer to becoming the Republican presidential nominee again, he did something quite surprising. He went to Sneaker Con, a big sneaker event in Philadelphia, to sell new sneakers with his name on them. The event is known as “The Greatest Sneaker Show on Earth”.
When Trump introduced his new sneakers, some people cheered, but many others booed loudly. The sneakers are gold high tops with an American flag on them, and Trump calls them “Never Surrender High-Tops”. They cost $399, which is quite expensive. Trump also sells cologne and perfume on a website for $99 a bottle.
It’s not related to Trump’s campaign, but Trump’s campaign people talked about the event online. The products are only available for three days.
Recently, a judge in New York told Trump to pay a huge amount of money, $355 million, for lying about how much money he has. He lied to banks and others to get more money. Also, Trump has to pay $83.3 million to a woman who said he assaulted her. With all the interest, Trump owes over $500 million now, and it’s not clear if he can pay it.
At the sneaker event, some people yelled “USA!” to support Trump, while others booed him. It was hard to hear Trump because of all the noise. Some people had signs saying “SNEAKERHEADS LOVE TRUMP”.
Trump said he’s been thinking about selling sneakers for a long time. Some people didn’t know he would be there and kept shopping while he talked.
Most of the people at the event were younger and more diverse than the people who usually go to Trump’s rallies. Trump’s campaign hopes he can get more young and minority voters to support him in the election later this year.
This isn’t the first time Trump has tried to make money since he started running for president again in 2022. Last year, he made between $100,000 and $1 million by selling digital trading cards of himself. The cards showed him as different characters like an astronaut or a superhero.
Trump’s website for the sneakers says they’re not political. It says the sneakers are special and numbered, like collector’s items. The description says they’re bold and tough, just like Trump himself.
The sneakers are called “Never Surrender” because they’re supposed to make you feel strong and ready to face anything. They’re meant to be a symbol of not giving up.
